Frequently Asked Questions

What should I know about field conditions before using the HP-16?

The HP-16 is designed for use in prepared beds. Soil that is too compacted, too wet, too dry, or full of large clods may affect transplanting quality. For best results, prepare the bed so the furrow can open smoothly and the paper chain can be pulled evenly through the field.

Are all crops suitable for Paperpot transplanting?

Not all crops are ideal for the Paperpot system. It is generally better suited for crops that can be raised as seedlings and transplanted in rows. Crops with large seedlings, sensitive roots, or wide spacing requirements may need extra consideration before choosing a paper chain pot.

What happens to the paper chain after it is planted?

After transplanting, the paper chain remains in the soil and gradually weakens over time. The speed depends on soil moisture, temperature, microbial activity, and field management. In short-cycle crops, some paper may still be visible when the bed is turned over.

Can I use LP353-30 with the HP-16?

Yes, but the proper attachment is required. When transplanting LP353-30 with the HP-16, please use the Paper Pot Transplanter Attachment for LP353-30, available from JAT.

LP353-30 has 12-inch / 30 cm spacing and 190 cells per sheet, so it is different from standard 264-cell paper chain pots. Some tools designed for standard 264-cell paper chain pots may not fit LP353-30.
